ABOUT DENZELL

A Candidate for the Community, By the Community and FROM the Community!

Imagine a world where the birds in the sky are helicopters in search of a juvenile delinquent; a community where success is measured by the number of cars you drive, not your academic accomplishments; a neighborhood where your life is predetermined to be a statistic; a home where your mother works two full-time jobs just to put a roof over your head and a daily meal for you and your siblings. All of this, Denzell Perry, experienced growing up. This was his upbringing; however, these circumstances did not dictate his future. In fact, they propelled him to a life in which he is an asset, not a liability.

Denzell Perry is a person who has “walked a mile” in the shoes of Compton’s youth. Denzell successfully navigated a challenging upbringing, sat in classrooms uncertain of his future and was told he had a learning disability. Denzell’s experiences mirror many of today’s students. Despite Denzell’s hardships, He graduated from Dominguez High School with honors, became a National Youth of the Year Finalist for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, a first-generation college graduate from both Menlo College and Pepperdine University School of Law, a Doctoral Student, a Human Resources Executive in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, while being a mentor for countless teens and young people. Denzell works to be an example for students born and raised in Compton so they may see that their beginning does not determine their end.

Denzell is committed to being an inspiration, role model and advocate for students. His work in the nonprofit arena, from Board Leadership to Program Development, has enabled him to mentor, educate, and design curriculum, policies, and procedures that promote good study habits, positive self-esteem and hope. Denzell’s dedication to transform lives by creating pathways to success is why he aspire to become your representative on Compton Unified School District’s Governing Board of Trustees.

Denzell supports public education. Denzell strongly believes that it is important to increase enrollment in our Compton Unified School District Schools, rebuild trust within our communities, and ensure high school students graduate with a plan for the future and the skillset to accomplish the plan.

Denzell is not a politician, and this is precisely why he is running. Our students’ futures are at stake and traditional politics are what often leave our students and educators hanging in the balance. The people of Compton deserve better. When elected, Denzell will leverage his knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide Compton with pathways to build a better future for our youth. Compton is Denzell’s home, it is where his story began, and it is indeed a place where great futures start.
